Katie Medearis is the Head of Investigations & Deputy General Counsel at the College Sports Commission. She joined the CSC after eleven years as a federal prosecutor with the Department of Justice, bringing significant leadership and investigatory expertise to the CSC.

Most recently, Medearis served as the Chief of the Criminal Division for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia, which is responsible for prosecuting all federal law violations occurring across over half of the state and on behalf of 2.2 million residents. During her tenure, she was selected for a detail as an Associate Deputy Attorney General at Main Justice, where she managed the nationwide federal law enforcement portfolio of the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Marshals Service. In this role, she partnered closely with agency heads and chiefs of staff to shape policies, execute priority initiatives, and drive enforcement. Medearis also held other key roles at U.S. Attorney’s Offices in Virginia and California, including Deputy U.S. Attorney, Branch Chief, and Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council Coordinator for national security. Earlier in her career, Medearis spent over five years in private practice as a litigator advising corporate clients in civil matters with parallel regulatory proceedings.

Medearis has directed hundreds of investigations covering a wide range of misconduct, including corruption, financial fraud, cyber-intrusions, dark-web narcotics trafficking, cyberstalking, and counterintelligence. Her high-impact cases received multiple national awards. Medearis has hired, mentored, and supervised dozens of attorneys, building strong investigative teams to successfully take on complex challenges.

Medearis obtained her J.D. from William & Mary Law School and earned her B.A. in Spanish and Sociology from the University of California, Davis. She lives with her husband and two daughters in the Washington, D.C. area.
